Can’t get enough of the multitouch features on your new macbook air or Pro? Mac developer Will Henderson has come up with a nifty way to get even more mileage out of those pinches, swipes and rotations. His new MultiClutch app actually lets you assign custom keyboard shortcuts in a given app to the standard gestures now available on the Air and Pro.
Says Henderson:
Want swipes to change tabs in Safari? Done. The same in iChat? Done. Want zoom-in to open emails in Mail, zoom-out to close windows in every app, and a swipe down to bring up Quicksilver? Done done done.
Henderson is currently distributing a beta version of MultiClutch for free on his web site and there’s also a PayPal link for those who want to throw a little scrilla his way in appreciation.
He says he’s considering combining other keys with gestures to expand multitouch functionality even further (e.g. ctrl + pinch = open a webpage while pinch alone = default zoom out) in future versions of the application.

While we found Samsung’s IT solutions emphasis here at CeBIT a bit of a yawn — when executive gets up and tells you that printers are his “personal passion,” you know you’re in for a wild ride — we are glad to see that the company is sticking some of its consumer design cues into its business products. Case in point, the T-series LCDs borrow from the “crystal” style elements of the Bordeaux series, but pack in some business-friendly specifications. The SyncMaster T260 is the flagship of the series, with 26-inches of real estate, 1920 x 1200 resolution, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 5ms response time and a DTV tuner option, while the similar T240 hits at 24-inches and brings 0.3 Watts standby power. Inputs include DVI and HDMI and D-sub. More basic displays start at 19-inches, multiple color accent options are available, and everything will be available globally in March.

Great, so we now have this category called the “mini UMPC”? I thought UMPCs were as small as they could get, and if technology progresses further, will we be seeing micro UMPCs in the future? But I digress - this mobile wonder features the following :-
- Windows CE
- WiFi connectivity
- ARM 926EJ 266MHz processor
- miniSD memory card slot
- TV-out connectivity
- Support for MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV, AVI, ASF, WMV, 3GP, DivX file formats
- 2 megapixel camera
No idea on how much it costs though.

We don’t see much of Samsung’s laptops around these parts, and it doesn’t look like the P200 is headed Stateside either, but it’s certainly a solid entry into the ultraportable market — which seems to be the new hotness these days. The laptop has been circulating in the UK since February, but is finally “official” here at CeBIT. The P200 runs on “Intel’s latest” chips, up to the Core 2 Duo 9500, and integrated graphics come courtesy of ATI’s Radeon Xpress 1250, with the laptop wringing 3.1 hours of life out of those chips with a 6-cell battery. The 12.1-inch 1280 x 800 screen is no-gloss, and includes a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam. The laptop also packs Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Atheros Super G WiFi, 6-in-1 memory card reader, PCI Express card slot a whopping two USB ports. The whole kit weighs in at rather hefty-for-its-class 4.2 pounds, and is available in Europe today starting at € 999 ( $1,517 US).

It looks like TiVo will be ending their current TiVo rewards program as of May 28, 2008 with the last day to earn any new reward points being one month earlier on April 30. As of May 28 the program will officially end and any remaining reward points that are unused will expire, make sure you take advantage of any that you may have before they go away.
As of a new program in the works, it seems foolish that TiVo would take this away and not have it replaced with something similar, or hopefully better for their loyal customers. Per the TiVo FAQ’s page they have stated that “The current program is ending on May 28th, 2008 but stay tuned for more news and announcements; sign up for The TiVo Newsletter.”
While it does not specifically mention any new program, it could lead one to believe this will be replaced.

Nowadays a great amount of people type something. It’s not important whether it’s a poem, essay, SMS or something else. Some type using their PC keyboard, others use that of their cell phones. Because of this both producers and designers try to make this process simpler by inventing various types of keyboards (for example, wireless small keyboard featuring Bluetooth).
Nokia as many others trying to invent something absolutely new and different has just filled a patent application known as “mobile device with virtual keyboard”. We can guess as much from there that the digital camera located at the back of the cell phone is used to capture the movement and position of the user’s fingers, projecting them onto a virtual keyboard which is shown on the phone’s display in real time.
It sounds really interesting but it’s not the fact that it will be easier to type on such a virtual keyboard than on a usual one. Moreover, I think that such an application will make your cell phone’s battery drained in no time, and the camera wouldn’t be fast enough to capture the image of a speed typist. Another significant problem consists in the fact that there would probably be some limitations in cell phone designs as the cameras can only be placed at a certain place on the handset in order for it to work nicely.

It’s crazy enough that AT&T offers Samsung’s a737 slider in four wild colors — red, lime, orange, and blue — but apparently, that’s not nearly enough. Who knew? We’ve heard that the phone is about to get done up in hot pink, electric blue, white, and purple, so just sit tight if you like the phone but didn’t like (inexplicably, may we add) any of the current color choices.

Star of the MWC show in my eyes this year was undoubtedly the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 super-smartphone. Pitched squarely at the Nokia E90 and the Apple iphone, and combining features of both, this gorgeous looking phone has everything -all the features you could possibly need (HSPDA, HSUPA, GPS, 3G, 3 inch touchscreen and a 3.2 megapixel camera), a superb new user interface running on top of Windows Mobile 6, and looks to die for.
At the time of the show, we had to make do with press release pics from Sony Ericsson, but as time has gone on, a few more pics have emerged of this glorious new smartphone.
More pics of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 after the jump.
