Lego MP3 Player: Easy to Lose

These cool players seem to be simple Lego blocks but are actually capable of entertaining you better than a set of building blocks. The buttons are in the form of some of the nubs that are used by the Lego blocks to join other Lego blocks. They come with controls such as volume, pause, play, forward and backward. The songs are stored on microSD cards that can have memory capabilities reaching 2 gigabytes!

World’s largest and tallest arch bridge is being built in Dubai

Dubai is one of the most famous cities in the world that is known for its magnificent buildings and structures. In the near future one more splendid structure will be added to this list - an arch bridge designed by NY architecture firm Fxfowle.

This bridge having one mile in length and 670 feet in height will be the largest and tallest arch bridge in the world. In addition to that according to available illustrations it will be one of peerless beauty. Construction of this bridge starts this month and will go on till 2012. As regards the total expenditures they are estimated at about 7 million. Moreover world’s first vacuum tube mass transit system will launch in Dubai shortly thereafter.

Thus, the architecture that looks like it’s from the XXII century contributes a lot to the sheer grandeur of this city. So, in case Dubai goes on expanding that fast, it will soon create its own universe that would be absolutely different from everything in the world.

MIT’s Siftables let you juggle your data… for real

Posted Mar 15th 2008 6:33AM by Joshua Topolsky
Filed under: Displays, Peripherals
The cats and kittens at the MIT Media Lab are always on some next-level type of wackiness, and the Siftables project doesn’t break from that trend. The concept seems simple enough: a collection of small, self-contained input / display devices wirelessly link together to form an independent mini-network, or a control system for a PC. The cubes feature OLED screens, a 3-axis accelerometer, Bluetooth, flash memory, and a haptic actuation driver, and feature additional ports for attaching other devices. The aim is to create a more natural system for handling and displaying data, though we won’t be surprised if this is somehow incorporated into an even more realistic version of Call of Duty. Check out the video after the break to see the little guys in action.

How would you change Chumby?

Posted Mar 14th 2008 6:50PM by Darren Murph

As with Pleo, many may argue that Chumby is simply too cute to tweak. But if you can manage to shuffle your emotional attachments to the side for a tick, we’re confident there’s quite a few things you’d like to see changed. Sure, this totally unique hodgepodge of glanceable information and bedroom mainstays can handle quite a broad variety of tasks right out of the box, but considering that it’s built on an open, hackable architecture, it’s just begging for someone to come along and do things better than its creator. So, now that you’ve had ample time to roll this critter around your domicile, enjoy its abilities and install that hefty firmware update, what’s left to be done? Tell the world below, we’re all listening.

Dell busts out 20-inch UltraSharp 2009W LCD

Not feeling enough LCD love from Dell lately? How about this new UltraSharp 2009W? The new 20-inch 16:10 widescreen monitor does up a 1680 x 1050 resolution, with 36% more pixel content than Dell’s 19-incher. The display also outperforms its budget friendly E207WFP predecessor with a 102% color gamut, 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 5ms response time, and four USB 2.0 ports. Only inputs available are DVI with HDCP and VGA, but perhaps all can be forgiven with that $289 pricetag. It’s available now.

[Thanks, Bart]

The CECT N95E, not quite the N95 you expected

The Chinese are at it again. Their latest victim? The N95 8GB. If you don’t have the heart or a big enough pocket to pony up the $650 or so that the original N95 will set you back, the CECTN95E should be right up your alley. For just $145 you get a 5-megapixel camera, GPRS, WAP, Bluetooth 2.0, and handwriting recognition with a bundled 512MB TransFlash card. There are some features we really have to admit as improvements, like the 1600 mAh battery x2, multilanguage support, 3-inch QVGA touchscreen display, and dual SIM support. Not bad, eh? Care to take a few pointers, Nokia?
