2go PC from Intel

Rumor? Or simply the truth? Engadget has revealed some details about the 2go PC from Intel, previously known as Netbook. The laptop has a price tag of $400 and a release date set for the next 60 days.

Consider the 2go one of those middle-range laptops in terms of price, and very small in terms of dimensions. Sporting a 9-inch LCD display, an Intel Celeron processor in the inside with a maximum RAM memory of 1GB, and 915GMS chipset for the graphics.

Sadly there is no information about the weight, but I bet it is pretty light. The 2go comes with the usual extras such as Wi-Fi, memory card reader, USB ports and other jacks.

The systems natively run XP (though Linux appears to be an option), feature a VGA webcam, and are expected to go about three hours between full charges.

Rock Band moshes over to Wii on June 22nd

Although playstation 2 / 3 and Xbox 360 owners have been living the dream for months, Wii owners can finally circle a date on their calender to undoubtedly be sick: June 22nd. As we expected, the title will indeed be adding Nintendo’s darling to its tour ’round the consoles, but just like those pesky Ticketmaster fees, things aren’t going to be all peaches and cream during the checkout process. For starters, Wii purchasers will be forced to swallow the “no downloadable content” and “no online multiplayer support” pills, and after those are down, they’ll be forced to shell out $169.99 and know that their Wiimote won’t have anything to do with the instruments (unlike Guitar Hero III’s Wiimote-controlled axe). And no, your GHIII guitar most definitely won’t play nice with Rock Band. Yes, that is the sound of your expectations being crushed.

Update: The crew over at Joystiq got in touch with Harmonix, who hooked them up with this pic of the white Wii drumkit and a few addtiional deets: although a lot of features got axed, including character creation and Mii support, Wii rockers will score wireless guitars out of the box. Sure, but we’d rather have GHIII compatibility, you know?

Ladybag Concept relies on RFID

The Ladybag concept you see here is a smart bag that uses RFID technology to make sure you never leave home without the cell phone, house keys and wallet/purse. After all, those are essential urban tools to have in this day and age. LED icons on the side will light up once it detects a certain object is missing, with a smiley indicating you’re good to go. Looks like the ipod ain’t that essential after all, eh?

Glacier Computer Heated Touchscreen

Touch screen displays have been around for quite a fair bit now, but they have never been heated before. Thanks to Glacier Computer, that is now a reality, offering a heated touch screen that will be used in tablet computers which are specifically created for use in forklifts, carts, pallet jacks, and other piece of heavy machinery. Why is it heated? To reduce on the frozen condensation which can accumulate on displays whenever one drives to and fro from sub-zero and above-freezing temperatures. The (aptly named) Everest tablets will come in 10.4″ or 12.1″ color touch screen displays, featuring integrated WiFi connectivity and an industrial hard drive.

Samsung Q1 Ultra at $749 on Amazon.com

Note that it is the fully featured Samsung Q1 Vista with an SD Slot and Bluetooth. I personally don’t like it much, mainly because of the odd keyboard, but I thought that you might want to know about this deal.

Happy birthday: take a trip in America’s largest flying gadget (part 2)

Posted Mar 24th 2008 3:15PM by Ryan Block
Filed under: Transportation
Sometimes even the plugged-in Engadget reader needs to pick up and head out for more relaxing climes. Well, for our fourth birthday this month we’re treating six lucky people to two round trip tickets destined for anywhere Virgin America flies. We wouldn’t want you traveling in something that doesn’t have power, network, and a seatback terminal, though, so you don’t have to sweat about completely unplugging to get from point A to point B. Check out the rules below, and good luck!

  • Leave a comment below. It is in honor of our fourth birthday, after all, so we wouldn’t mind a bit of adulation — but it’s up to you.
  • You may only enter this specific giveaway once. Although you can enter up to six times through the course of this six part giveaway, if you enter this specific giveaway more than once you’ll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.)
  • If you enter more than once, only activate one comment. This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you’ll be fine.
  • Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! Sorry, we don’t make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.
  • Winner will be chosen randomly. That winner will get two round trip tickets anywhere Virgin America flies. Tickets are valid through May 31st, 2008, and are blacked out May 22-26. Approximate value is $599 per pair. You can only win once.
  • Entries can be submitted until Friday, March 28th, 11:59PM ET. Good luck!
  • Full rules can be found here.

Oh, and be sure to enter part 1 for another chance!

Cybernet’s Amiga-Style PCs Now Quad-Core

Ah, Amiga, Amiga, only in Cybernet’s keyboard computers does your era’s computer design principles live on.

The modern fashion is to include the computer in the monitor housing (Cybernet makes one of those, too), with the keyboard as a peripheral. Back in the day, of course, it was precisely opposite, with large, wedge-shaped keyboards housing everything but the screen.

Cybernet’s latest Amigalike now supports Core 2 Quad and 4GB of RAM, a DVD burner and expansion cards thanks to Mini PCI. The GMA X3100 video chip inside it won’t make it a 21st-century Amiga in terms of gaming graphics (and that ugly trackpad seems pointless, unless it’s much lighter than it looks), but with prices starting at $630, it’s pretty cheap.

You also get 4 USB ports, a PCI-e slot (it doesn’t say what width, but I’ll bet you won’t be jamming 8800 Ultras in it), gigabit ethernet and, interestingly, a slot to hotplug 2.5" hard drives.
