Rock unveils the lightweight Pegasus P210 notebook

Apple’s macbook air even in its infancy stage is already being threatened by other laptop manufacturers. UK-based laptop maker Rock for one has released its newest laptop model the Pegasus P210, a 12-inch laptop that weighs in at just about 2.2-pounds.

In addition to its weight, or lack-off, the Pegasus P210 also brags of a ‘potential’ 6-hour battery life, which assuming that would be a real world estimate would be wonderful. Those features alone could be enough for the Pegasus P210 to gain the moniker – ideal travel companion.

But wait, there’s more to the Pegasus P210 than just being lightweight and having a ‘potential’ battery life of 6 hours. The Pegasus P210 is running Windows Vista and is being powered by an Intel A110 processor. The P210 features a 12-inch WXGA X-Glass display, 80GB ATA hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, three USB ports, PC Card slot, four-in-one memory card reader, magnesium alloy chassis, hard drive shock protection and optional integrated 3.6Mbps 3G/GPRS modem.

Here’s the clincher, you’ll get all of those features in the Pegasus P210 for a whooping price of $1858! Add around $240 and you’ll get the 3G version of the Pegasus P210.

XP can’t be saved–going away June 30th

According to the All About Microsoft blog, Microsoft has officially confirmed that you will no longer be able to purchase a copy of Windows XP after June 30th.

This was the original date set in the Windows Life-Cycle Policy, and the only exceptions are shipping in Ultra Low-Cost PCs, like the Asus Eee, or shipping preloaded on new machines. The ULPCs exception ends on June 30, 2010, or one year after the next version of Windows is available, whichever comes first. As for pre-installed machines, their time is up on January 31, 2009.

We previously reported on a petition to save XP, and it looks like Microsoft has decided to go with its original plan, despite more than 100,000 people asking Microsoft to not stop OEM and shrink-wrapped sales of XP.

If you love XP go buy some copies now because after June 30th, you’re stuck with Vista.

Dell to cut even more jobs as it reduces costs

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 9:49PM by Nilay Patel
Filed under: Misc. gadgetsLooks like Dell’s plan to trim $3B in costs from its budget is going to involve even more job cuts than the 8,800 already announced — speaking to analysts today, Michael Dell said that his company’s management had “identified a very significant opportunity” to cut costs, and that it was “aggressively going after it.” That means even more jobs will be slashed, apparently — a further 1,000 this quarter at least, but Dell wouldn’t say what the total would be in the end, just that it would be more than 8,800. Dell went on to say that no part of the company would be considered sacred as cuts are considered, and that Dell’s brass thinks that it’s “begun the journey to transform the company.” Cutting jobs is one way to do it, sure — but might we suggest focusing on delivering great products would also help?

Ericsson unveils M700 LTE platform for mobile devices

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 6:28PM by Darren Murph
Filed under: cellphones, Wireless
The same week that Nokia Siemens Networks unveiled its LTE solution for North America comes a little nugget from Ericsson: the M700. Hailed as the “world’s first commercially available LTE-capable platform,” it promises peak data transmissions of 100Mbps down and 50Mbps up, which will undoubtedly be the next best thing since sliced bread. Reportedly, initial devices based on the unit will be ExpressCards, USB modems, etc., and of course, it supports bandwidths between 1.4 and 20MHz and the oh-so-exciting 700MHz bands. Unfortunately, a commercial release isn’t set to happen until 2009 — with products “based on the platform” not scheduled until 2010 — but to its credit, samples of ASICs will be ready to roll sometime this year.

Compare 3G mobile broadband online,

Are you looking for 3G package? Before you go to sign up for a mobile broadband package with a provider, you should compare their offers and technologies. The known way: visit providers website, call them or visit them.

But I must tell you that is not easy and it is time consuming. You need to see all offers in one place. So, I search for you and I found broadbandgenie UK website.

Here you can easily choose a good mobile 3G broadband package.

They display presentation for Vodafone, T-Mobile, 3 Mobile, Orange, O2, Virgin Mobile and Carphone Warehouse. Also, on first page they present the best mobile broadband packages with details like: Setup fee, monthly cost, extra costs, max speed, download limit and their advice for the package.
I find very useful the page with mobile broadband help. Here I can find what pay-as-you-go mobile broadband tariffs is or rumors about why Vodafone has been trialing the femtocell technology.

If you don’t know too much about mobile broadband you can learn from their Mobile Broadband Beginners Guide, an excellent starting point.

If you already have a mobile broadband subscription maybe you want to give it a test. On the same website you can test it and find some useful stuff about your broadband connectivity.

Splashpower can’t wirelessly recharge bank account, declares bankruptcy

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 5:40PM by Nilay Patel
Filed under: Misc. gadgetsWe’re never going to give up the dream of wireless charging, but it looks like the high costs of developing the technology plus the battle to build it into portable devices has claimed early wireless pioneer Splashpower. We’ve been following the company since 2004, but we never really saw any commercial-ready products emerge from its labs, while companies like WildCharge and eCoupled have managed to at least produce demo-quality gear. Here’s hoping an interested investor picks up what’s left of the R&D and runs with it.

[Thanks, John]

BlackBerry Gets XM Radio

Guess blackberry owners will soon be able to enjoy XM Radio Mobile, as long as they fork out $7.99 a month. That amount of dough will offer access to 20 channels of XM programming, including commercial free music channels in addition to The Virus (uncensored talk) and XM Comedy (uncensored comedy) through QuickPlay’s OpenVideo. It has never been easier to be entertained at all times, no matter where we are. I wonder how kids of the next generation will face where entertainment medium is concerned.
