Because Sony wants us to believe that digital photo frames aren’t all that bad, they are now offering the VGF-CP1, a Wi-Fi enabled little number that, other than showing off your digital snaps in 16 million colors, gives you access to your preferred RSS feeds and plays your favorite music too. It can even connect directly to online albums like Google’s Picasa, allowing you to download and save your online photos to the 512MB of internal memory. All these features will come at a price though, and if you’re in Japan (as it’s only available there at the moment), that price is 30,000 Yen or about $300 USD. You didn’t really expect it to be cheap, did you? Well, at least it’s not as expensive as some other digital photo frames that we have seen recently.

Google’s been making all kinds of a fuss lately over what it claims are Verizon’s plans to subvert the intent of the 700MHz open-access rules, but it looks like the carrier isn’t interested in fighting it out (for once). Verizon issued a statement today saying that it “understood the FCC’s rules,” and that “of course we’ll abide by those rules.” Of course, that doesn’t really mean anything until Big Red actually builds out a network and we see how it implements open-access — which will take years — but once again, it seems like Google is really the one in control of the 700MHz spectrum, even though it didn’t win. Crafty!

The recently announced Touch Diamond from HTC has made its FCC appearance. Which for those waiting to see that US release this should be very good news. While there is not any additional release info along with the FCC news, this does fit in well with the North American release timeframe, which was mentioned to be during the second half of 2008.

With an official release date yet to be announced more and more details of the MSI Wind have been leaking out. The latest information puts the Wind even further into the Eee PC group as we have just learned that it will not only be available in white, but MSI has plans for a black and pink model as well.
Each of the three colors will be available in both the 8.9-inch and 10-inch displayed models. In addition to the newly discovered colors, TCMagazine is also reporting that there will be a model that will offer up to 7-hours of battery life, now that is high-capacity, lets just hope it does not add a ton of extra weight to go along with the power. Other newly released details include the webcam being 1.3-megapixels and the notebook will also have an second (empty) RAM slot available for easier upgrading. The Wind, which is still expected to be available later this quarter is expected to range in price from 299 to 699 Euros (about $460 to $1,077 US).

In a rather bizarre effort to protect sensitive company data, T-Mobile has announced that its Sarnia, Ontario call center employees will no longer be allowed to use pens, pencils, or note pads in the open. If they must used them, they are required to keep them in their locked desks between uses. Taking the new policy even further, they’ve also required that all photos and papers on cubicle walls be laminated so they can not be used to write on.
While it’s easy to understand a company wanting to protect its data, this new policy is just a bit ridiculous. If the company is that paranoid it’s a good thing the employees don’t have access to any kind of small, easily concealable electronic device that can easily accept data and transfer it quickly over the net or any way to discreetly copy data directly from their computers, Wouldn’t that be awful? I’m sure T-Mobile execs are sleeping well tonight with that knowledge.

This terrifying “defense” product is called Mace Pepper Spray Gel. The gimmick? It sticks. Spray this at your victim and it will grab onto to his visage like the facehugger from Alien, administering an excruciating pain poultice consisting 1.4% capsaicin. From the blurb:
The Mace gel formula sticks to the face of an assailant leaving them temporarily blinded, which allows for safe detaining by law enforcement and military officials.
The maker, Mace, clearly has a very vicious customer in mind, and has thoughtfully tested the gel in conjunction with other non lethal weapons. The gel is “Non-flammable, tested safely with Tasers and stun guns”. And if you were worrying about your face-melting endeavours spoiling the rest of your day, don’t.
The […] formula is ideal for indoor use and minimizes cross-contamination. This is important because streaming pepper sprays can contaminate a home […] with an uncomfortable pepper scent that will take several hours to dissipate […] The pepper scent sticks to the affected area as it is suspended in the gel.
I love the smell of chili in the morning. $15.

Yesterday, Vodafone announced that it will be carrying the iPhone in Italy. The press release was short and to the point. Soon afterwards, Telecom Italia issued an even shorter press release announcing the exact same thing:
Telecom Italia announced today it has signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Italy later this year.
This means that Italy is the first country to have two telcos offering the iPhone, which looks like the beginning of the end for exclusivity deals, and further suggests that the iPhone will be sold with a subsidy. Italy has two more operators, Wind and 3, and Wind at least thinks that it might also offer the iphone. When contacted by Italian website Setteb, Wind said that “we are evaluating this market opportunity”.
Some numbers: Italy has the highest penetration of 3G in Europe, at 36.3% of users. The country is also decidedly anti-contract, with a staggering 90% of customers choosing pre-pay. This curious combination could point to an unlocked iPhone, but whether it will have its price jacked up to over $1000 like the phantom unlocked French iPhone we have no idea.
