Bose is back again, this time with the SoundDock Series II digital music system that caters to both iPod and iPhone owners, bringing home high-quality audio performance despite being small in size. Thanks to Yamaha’s BODiBEAT, you can expect your tunes to automatically sync with your steps, giving you new reason to get out of the house and get to steppin’. Granted, the $299.99 price tag is pretty steep for just 512MB of space and 12-hours of battery life (marathon, what?), but we’re sure there are a few of you out there willing to pay the premium to keep your head nodding perfectly in line with your pace. Oh, and if you completely skipped over the headline, it’s shipping now. Right now.

Next in the series of new notebooks that Asus has recently announced is the B50 notebook which is geared for the business professionals. According to Asustek, it is the ultimate notebook computer for the business environment. Featuring the latest Express Gate technology, the Asus B50 boasts of an 8-second boot-up time for fast access to various desktop applications and online connection.

This powerhouse machine also boasts of Asustek’s exclusive Power4 Gear Extreme for efficient power management which extends usage beyond 5 hours. With apologies to Shakespeare, something is brewing at VUDU. With CEDIA just around the corner, the company has laid off some of its staff, most notably some of its marketing higher-ups. Additionally, rumors are swirling regarding just about every aspect of the upstart company’s future. CEPro got some talk-time with the VUDU’s national dealer channel manager, and a theme of decreased emphasis on the retail channel seems to run throughout the conversation, punctuated by a end-of-life status on the VUDU X100. Meanwhile, the company is making some CEDIA promises for its custom-install-targeted VUDU XL: more HD content (1,000 titles), more connectivity (HD over component) and lifetime warranties on purchased titles. It’s all rumor, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see VUDU move exclusively into the custom-install market where it seems to have a toe-hold. So what say ye — is something rotten in VUDU, or should we hang up the codpiece and get back to work?

Virgin Mobile USA has announced the completion of the Helio acquisition. The deal, which was officially announced back towards the end of June was completed for the expected $39 million and has removed ownership from SK Telecom and Earthlink.

The $39 million payment for the acquisition was not in cash, but instead was 13 million shares of Virgin Mobile USA common stock. Also, and in addition to the received stock, the transaction included SK Telecom and UK based venture capital company Virgin Group each investing $25 million into Virgin Mobile USA for which they will receive preferred stock. Finally SK Telecom was also offered two board of director seats on the Virgin Mobile USA board.

Today’s generations of gee-whiz graphics and analog controls have brought with them one unfortunate addition: beefy, expensive wireless controllers that we’re loathe to dash against the floor or to bash against an adjacent sibling. The creatively-termed “USB Metal Game Pad” from Dream Cheeky is just what it says on the box, doing your basic assortment of SNES-era joypad work with some USB pluggability and Mac / PC compatibility, but being conveniently built out of metal. Sure, it looks shoddy and uninspired, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. No word on price or where to nab one.
